Zero fillers / Maltodextrin or added sugar

    Some quick facts on Maltodextrin:

    1. Maltodextrin raises blood sugar levels (blood glucose) faster than table sugar with a glycaemic index (GI) listing of up to 120 compared to table sugars rating of 63.

    2. Maltodextrin can be very conveniently categorised as a carbohydrate and not a sugar.

    3. Maltodextrin is one of the cheapest and most common additives and fillers found in carbonated and formula energy drinks, meal replacement shake mixes and lots of ultra-processed junk foods.

    4. Maltodextrin has no nutritional value or benefit for the gamer.

Consuming too much sugar, the subsequent ‘crashing’ and associated health risks such as weight gain, heart disease and type 2 diabetes have been very well documented over the years. Which is why we strongly believe there’s no place for added sugar in any of our products. In fact, our In Game Food only contains 0.4% naturally occurring sugar per meal which amounts to just 1.6 calories.

Maltodextrin however, has definitely gone under the radar within the gaming community. Maltodextrin is a very highly processed carbohydrate often sourced from rice, corn or potatoes and is extremely cheap to produce. It’s generally used as a food additive (or what we purists would refer to as a filler) namely for its sweetness and for the fact it can be conveniently listed as a carbohydrate and not a sugar. But this is misleading to say the least, a point highlighted by the Glycaemic Index (GI).

The GI rates carbohydrate-containing foods by how much they boost blood sugar (blood glucose). As you can imagine this is critical information for diabetics, but also of importance to gamers who want to game hard but game healthy. The GI maxes out at a total of 100 which is represented by the standard glucose. Foods low on the GI scale release glucose slowly and steadily, whereas foods high on the GI release glucose rapidly. For reference purposes table sugar (sucrose) registers at 63. Maltodextrin however typically ranges from 85-120 which should ring alarm bells for health-conscious gamers who also want value for money.

    Game Harder For Longer

    QUICK SUMMARY OF GAMING BENEFITS:

    1. High in premium proteins to keep hunger at bay.

    2. Contains slow burning, complex carbohydrates to fuel long gaming intervals.

    3. Fortified with energy rich MCT's that convert to ketones, supporting optimum cognitive functioning while keeping hunger at bay.

    4. Rich in soluble fibre, helping to regulate hormones involved in appetite control.

So, how can we game harder while staying at our stations longer without compromising performance and overall health? IGF® provides intelligent supplementation of premium nutrition for the mind and body so you can remain focused and energised for hours. Competitive gamers require high quality proteins, slow burning carbohydrates, MCT’s (healthy fats) and fibre. All of which have been included in ideal amounts to IGF® and have been shown in numerous studies to help keep you fuller for longer (1, 2, 3, 4). If you don’t want hunger to interrupt, then read below on how you stand to benefit from our expertly formulated In Game Food.

IGF is high in premium plant protein (sourced from peas and rice) which includes all 9 essential amino acids (EAA’s) that the body cannot create (hence the term 'essential') making IGF a ‘complete protein source.’ Both pea and rice protein are incredibly in Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA’s) and when combined together have been shown to provide the most concentrated vegan protein available, even comparable to animal-derived protein powders such as whey.

To provide you with the sustained energy required to keep you focused we’ve included natural and nutritious oat flour (blended wholegrain oats). Oats complement long gaming intervals in 2 important ways. Firstly, they are by nature slow burning (complex) carbohydrates that help control and lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels (5, 6). This helps avoid sugar spikes, cravings, and the inevitable in-game crashing when snacks such as chocolate and pizza are on the menu. Secondly, they also provide much needed ‘volume’ especially as they expand in the stomach with the water when mixed. This increased volume naturally slows down gastric (stomach) emptying meaning the nutrition stays in the stomach for longer. This feeling of fullness is then communicated via the ‘gut-brain’ axis to the appetite control centres of the brain, giving you the green light to carry on gaming hard without compromise.

We’ve also fortified IGF with medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). MCT’s popularity has grown rapidly over the last few years and for good reason. Despite being categorised as a type of ‘saturated fat’ they are quickly and easily transported throughout the body as an instant source of energy (7). Interestingly for gamers, MCT’s can be converted into ketones to rapidly fuel the brain as well as increasing the release of 2 hormones (peptide YY and leptin) that promote feelings of fullness (8). Supplementing with MCT’s has also been shown to help reduce bodyweight and waist circumference (9, 10, 11), benefits you certainly don’t normally associate with prolonged periods of mastering your craft.

Finally, IGF is rich in soluble fibre, helping regulate hormones involved in appetite control. Some studies have found that eating soluble fibre reduces the levels of 'hunger hormones' produced by the body, including ghrelin (12). Others have shown that soluble fibre increases the production of hormones that make you feel full, such as cholecystokinin, GLP-1 and peptide YY (13, 14). This is all excellent news for hard working gamers who need to stay motivated and focused for hours.

    Nutritionally Complete Food

    Quick summary:

    1. Each serving represents a nutritionally complete meal, suitable for all next generation gamers.

As esports continues to grow, so does the need for professional gamers and gaming enthusiasts to look after themselves. Better health is central to our happiness and wellbeing, which unsurprisingly has a direct bearing on our productivity and overall performance levels. A critical component necessary to achieving and maintaining good health is of course nutrition. Making sure we have sufficient levels of proteins, carbohydrates, and healthy fats (macro nutrition) alongside all the essential vitamins and minerals (micro nutrition) makes a massive difference to our ability to compete consistently at our very best in our wonderful arena.

Enter IGF®, the nutritionally complete food for all next generation gamers. IGF® is not a standard Meal Replacement (MRP), that typically contains 250 calories (little more than a snack). IGF® is engineered to be much more and at around 400 calories (dependent on flavour) serves up a convenient and indulgent meal, formulated to keep you performing at your peak for hours. We also believe every calorie should serve a purpose which is why our next generation formula is filler free, fuelling you with maximum nutrition allowing you to game harder for longer.

    Next Generation Plant Proteins

    QUICK SUMMARY OF BENEFITS:

    1. IGF protein is inclusive to all dietary needs/lifestyles, appeals to all next generation gamers.

    2. IGF protein is of the very highest quality with an extremely impressive amino acid profile.

    3. IGF protein consists of sustainable ingredients that are kind to our environment and planet.

Are we simply targeting vegans with our plant protein source or is there more to this formulation than meets the eye? It’s a good question, we believe protein suitable for next generation gamers must tick 3 major boxes. These are inclusivity, uncompromising quality, and sustainability.

The protein sourced in IGF is suitable for everybody, it’s inclusive for all dietary needs and lifestyles, nobody needs to be excluded so all can benefit. And don’t think there’s been any compromise in quality. IGF plant protein (sourced from peas and rice) includes all 9 essential amino acids (EAA’s) that the body cannot create making IGF a ‘complete protein source.’ Both pea and rice protein are also rich in Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA’s) and when combined have been shown to provide the most concentrated plant protein available. The resulting amino acid profile is so impressive it’s even comparable to whey, as both provide equal levels of essential amino acids (EAA’s).

Thirdly, we strongly believe our protein should consist of only sustainable ingredients that are also kind to the environment which is why we’re against the use of whey and soy proteins. So you can rest assured that we’re serious in our commitment to delivering you intelligent, next generation nutrition to support both your gaming performance and overall health.

    Fortified With Game Changing MCT's

    Quick Summary of Gaming Benefits:

    1. MCT's provide an instant source of energy

    2. MCT's convert to ketones that rapidly fuel enhanced cognitive functioning

    3. MCT’s support fat loss by increasing fullness and improve gut health

    4. Good news for diabetic gamers as weight management and enhanced fat burning helps manage the condition

We made a conscious decision to fortify IGF with energy rich medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) instead of using the industry standard Sunflower Oil, for many reasons. MCT’s popularity has grown rapidly over the last few years and for good reason. Despite being categorised as a type of ‘saturated fat’ (solid at room temperature) they are quickly transported and easily utilised throughout the body as an instant source of energy (1). This is due to their smaller carbon length (typically saturates are long-chain triglycerides) as the body recognises and deals with them as a super-rich source of energy, like a carbohydrate.

Interestingly for gamers, the body can convert MCT’s into the hugely beneficial ketones that rapidly fuel cognitive functioning, improve mood, enhance focus as well as increasing the release of 2 hormones (peptide YY and leptin) that promote feelings of fullness (2). Supplementing with MCT’s has also been shown in studies to help reduce bodyfat and believe it or not waist circumference, (3, 4, 5) benefits you certainly wouldn’t associate with prolonged periods sat at your station.

MCT’s may further enhance fat loss by supporting the gut lining and optimising the growth of good bacteria that’s central to overall gut health and weight management (6). Research also suggests good news for gamers who suffer from diabetes, (7) as this reduced fat storage and enhanced fat burning have been shown to help manage the condition (8). Sunflower Oils even in their unrefined state, pressed without high temperatures, chemical solvents and bleach don’t deliver up on these benefits for gamers, making the additional investment to our formulation thoroughly worthwhile.

    Recover & Respawn

    QUICK SUMMARY OF GAMING BENEFITS:

    1. Contains premium nutrition from multiple active ingredients to enhance both mental and physical recovery.

Recovery is a vital part of eSport player performance, longevity, and overall health. If improvements on a consistent basis are to be made then a commitment to enhancing levels of respawning needs to be in place. This obviously points towards a deep and restful sleep being a top priority, a point that’s also reflected in the engineering of ELX Energy Elixir. So much success in eSports depends on reaction time, hand-eye co-ordination and work ethic under pressure; but gaming hard for many hours can severely compromise each one of these core foundations. But have you considered the role expertly-formulated nutrition can play in helping both the mind and body recover and respawn?

When we sleep our bodies naturally turn their attention towards recovery. Our brains are effectively ‘cleaned’ as cerebrospinal fluid washes in and out of them in waves, helping to clear out the waste. The muscles in the body are relaxed, tensions are released, and minor tears are healed. All this requires energy, which is why our basal metabolic rates (BMR) average a very similar calorie output throughout the night as they do during the day (1). Naturally, the better the source of nutrition the faster and more effective the recovery process, and the better you can perform the following day.

Each 100g nutritionally balanced and complete meal is specifically designed to enhance all aspects of mental and physical recovery, while also supporting your mental and physical health/wellbeing. IGF is an excellent source of plant protein and slow burning, complex carbohydrates. Fortified with fibre, MCT’s and ideal amounts of 24 essential vitamins and minerals. IGF may even help you sleep better at night by helping you feel full and satisfied (2, 3), which is why we recommend an additional serving 2-3 hours before intended sleep.

    IGF FAQs
    Frequently Asked Questions

    WHO IS IGF INTENDED FOR?

Simply put, IGF (In Game Food) is intended for all gamers who want to game hard and remain at their stations for longer without compromising their in-game performance, health, or well-being. To achieve this each 100g nutritionally balanced and complete meal is specifically designed to enhance all aspects of mental and physical in-game performance while supporting optimal levels of mental and physical recovery.

IGF is an excellent source of plant protein, slow burning complex carbohydrates and is also fortified with fibre, healthy fats and contains ideal amounts of 24 essential vitamins and minerals.

DOES IGF REALLY TASTE AS GOOD AS YOU SAY?

If you are vegan and are familiar with plant-based protein shakes, you’ll no doubt have little expectations when it comes to flavour. Indeed, most vegans tend to add a combination of almond milk, frozen fruit and nut butters to achieve a flavour and nutritional profile that they’re happy with. But all this takes time which is a commodity ‘in game’ and costs additional money to what can already be an expensive product.

What if to save time and money all you had to do was add water and within seconds you would have a delicious vegan friendly meal with a complete nutritional profile that’s optimised for gamers? This question was essentially the backbone of the product brief for IGF and we are absolutely delighted with the outcome and so are our customers. The most common feedback we get from gamers is that they feel like they’re ‘cheating’ when drinking IGF!

HOW DOES IGF MIX? HAD SOME BAD EXPERIENCES WITH VEGAN SHAKES.

Unsurprisingly this posed a genuine challenge in terms of product engineering. Achieving a nutritional profile that is truly optimised for gamers with market leading flavours is a big ask. But to make this a vegan friendly formulation that mixed quickly and effortlessly was quite another. Naturally we wanted to get away from lumpy textures and mixing instructions that required 2 steps, food processors or 60 seconds of vigorous shaking.

We quickly agreed that was hardly representative of next generation nutrition, so we went to work on a formula that would mix smoothly within several seconds of moderate shaking in a handheld shaker cup. We were absolutely overjoyed that not only did we manage to achieve our ambitious prerogative, but we did so using vegan friendly ingredients.

Why is IGF listed as being high in protein?

There are numerous benefits from sourcing high levels of plant protein from IGF. First of all, IGF isn’t designed to be a snack/MRP at just 280 calories. We believe you require more nutrition for lengthy gaming intervals. IGF represents more of a balanced meal at 400 calories that’s designed to keep you playing harder for longer without compromising levels of performance. On average (depending on flavour) each serving of IGF has 30% of the calories (120 calories) sourced from protein which is approximately the same as 120g chicken breast, 150g salmon or 330g Greek yogurt.

We are also aware that gamers typically have low-protein diets so IGF promotes a healthy and much-needed protein boost. It’s important to note that protein helps keep us fuller for longer, boosts our metabolic rate (weight management) while keeping our body-fat levels in check via a controlled appetite. A natural reduction in cravings is very much at the heart of this with the desire of late-night snacking representing a familiar foe to all gamers.

IGF looks a little high in saturated fat, why is that?

We made a conscious decision to fortify IGF with medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) instead of using the industry standard ‘unsaturated’ Sunflower Oil for several reasons. MCT’s popularity has grown rapidly over the last few years and for good reason. Despite being categorised as a type of ‘saturated fat’ (solid at room temperature) they are quickly absorbed and easily transported throughout the body as an instant source of energy without saturating. This is due to their smaller carbon length (typically saturates are long-chain triglycerides) and the body very much recognises and deals with MCT's as a super-energy rich carbohydrate, breaking them down accordingly.

Interestingly for gamers, MCT’s can be converted into hugely beneficial ketones to rapidly fuel the brain, improve mood, enhance focus as well as increasing the release of 2 hormones (peptide YY and leptin) that promote feelings of fullness. Supplementing with MCT’s has also been shown in studies to help reduce bodyfat, a benefit you certainly wouldn’t normally associate with prolonged periods sat at your station. Sunflower oils even in their unrefined state, pressed without high temperatures, chemical solvents and bleach don’t deliver up on these gaming benefits, making the additional investment to our formulation a worthwhile one.

    IS IGF GLUTEN FREE?

The only ingredient in IGF that gamers may need clarity on regarding gluten is the oat flour, (rolled oats). And as you may well know oats are actually gluten free, but we have to be mindful of cross-contamination at source. This is a result of the crops being grown alongside fields of rye, barley and wheat (which do contain gluten). The same machinery is often used for the harvesting / processing of all meaning traces of rye, barley and wheat can that unfortunately mix with the oats.

For a product to be considered gluten free these gluten levels have to be less than 20 parts per 1,000,000 (20ppm) - so we're dealing with tiny percentages.

Our advice is that if you're okay with standard oats from the supermarket (not the specifically gluten free / 'pure' oats) then you'll have absolutely no problems with our IGF.
